Who is Prof. Dr. Zafer Aybek?
I was born in 1963 in Almus district of Tokat. I completed my medical education at Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1987. I received my urology specialization training at 19 May University and became a urology specialist in 1992.
My academic career began in 1995 at the Department of Urology, Pamukkale University Faculty of Medicine . I received the title of associate professor in 1998 and professor in 2004. During this period, I not only practiced medicine but also held positions as department head, dean, and vice-rector.
International Experience and Academic Studies
In 1997, I worked with Dr. Gopal Badlani at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine - Long Island Campus in the United States, specializing in neuro-urology and prosthetic surgery. This experience shaped the direction of my professional life. I focused on female urology and functional urology .
In Europe:
Neuro- and female urology observation at Utrecht University.
Teaching position under the Erasmus program.
Strasbourg IRCAD advanced laparoscopy training
I have participated in many international training and course programs in Heilbronn, including studies on urological laparoscopy.
Reconstructive Urology and Urethral Surgery
Between 2014 and 2017, I was at the Dr. Sanjay Kulkarni Urethral Surgery Center (Pune, India), one of the world's leading centers for urethral surgery.
Following these trainings, reconstructive urology and especially:
Male urethral strictures
Female urethral strictures
I focused on the field of functional urology.
To date, we have performed nearly 500 urethral surgeries . Our results regarding long urethral strictures (panurethra) have been published in international journals. The AZ technique we described for female urethral strictures has also been included in the international literature.
Scientific and Professional Studies
I have actively participated in many national and international associations.
Board membership, vice presidency, and presidency at the Continence Society.
Member of the Board of Directors of the Urological Surgery Association
Member of the Genitourinary Reconstruction Section of the European Urological Association.
We have also organized numerous courses and scientific meetings in the field of urethral surgery.
Medical Philosophy
Every patient is a unique story. They have a different physiology and therefore require a different approach.
My goal is not only to cure the disease, but also to improve the patient's quality of life.
Personal Information
I am married and a father of two children. I am an amateur Turkish classical music enthusiast and play the oud in my free time.
